Yamunotri Dham: What is it?
Yamunotri Dham is one of the four well-known Hindu pilgrimages in the Himalayas known as Char Dham. In the Himalayas, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath are three other well-known Hindu pilgrimage sites. The annual pilgrimage, which is held from May to October, begins in Yamunotri Dham. It is located close to the source of the Yamuna River.
Why has Yamunotri Dham recently been in the news?
Uttarakhand’s state government has signed a contract to build a 3.38-kilometer ropeway from Janki Chatti in Kharsali to Yamunotri Dham. The ropeway will reduce the present 2- to 3-hour travel time to just 20 minutes. It will cost approximately Rs. 166.82 crore. Based on the Mono-Cable Detachable Gondola system technology, this ropeway will be constructed at a height of 10,797 feet.
Which God is there in Yamunotri?
Yamuna the goddess. Goddess Yamuna is the daughter of Lord Surya, the sun god, according to Hinduism. She is also Lord Yama’s twin sister, the god of death. Hindus hold that Yamuna is sacred and that taking a bath or drinking from it can atone for sins. Due to her connections to KALA, the lord of death, Goddess Yamuna is also known as “KALINDI” (Yama).
Where is Yamunotri Dham located?
The Yamuna River’s source, Yamunotri, is situated in the Garhwal region. It is located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand at a height of 3,291 metres. Only a 13 kilometre journey from Hanuman Chatti leads to the temple.
The temple is situated at Kalind Parbat’s foothills. The massive Bandarpoonch Parbat is located next to the temple.
What is Yamunotri Dham’s Brahma Kamal ?
The flower blooms only once a year, between July and August. The flower is symbolic of Lord Krishna. The 100 Kauravas are represented by the reddish stalks. The flower is sacred to hindus. Because of the Yamuna goddess’ associations to Lord Krishna, the flower has an important role in her worship.
Who constructed the Yamunotri temple?
In 1839, Tejri Naresh Sudarshan Shah constructed the temple. Afterwards, an earthquake destroyed the temple. In the 19th century, the temple was restored by the Maharaja of Jaipur, Gularaja.
