National Youth Day 2023: It is also known as Rashtriya Yuva Diwas and is observed on January 12. One of the greatest philosophers and spiritual leaders, Swami Vivekananda, was born on this day, and it is celebrated as his birthday anniversary.

The theme of 2023 is “Viksit Yuva-Viksit Bharat.”

National Youth Day: History

Swami Vivekananda’s birthday, which is on January 12, was initially recognized as National Youth Day by the Indian government in 1984. Since that time, the day is recognized nationwide as National Youth Day. The government’s major goal is to improve the future of the nation by inspiring young people to live by the ideals of Swami Vivekananda. It is a fantastic approach to harness the youth’s boundless energy and help the nation advance.

National Youth Day, Yuva Diwas, or Swami Vivekananda’s birthday are annually observed by Ramakrishna Math, Ramakrishna Mission, and their branches in accordance with Indian culture and tradition. There is a magnificent mangal aarti, as well as devotional songs, meditation, religious speeches, sandhya aarti, etc.

Also, parades, speeches on Swami Vivekananda, recitations, songs, conventions, essay-writing competitions, seminars, and other activities are held at various schools and colleges. The students also present Swami Vivekananda’s works and lectures in an effort to inspire the Indian young. The 26th National Youth Festival will be originally inaugurated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on January 12, 2023, at around 4 PM in Hubbali, Karnataka. The event is being conducted to honour and preserve Swami Vivekanand’s values, teachings, and accomplishments on National Youth Day, which is observed on the anniversary of his birth.

The National Youth Festival is conducted annually to showcase the talents of our young people at the national level and to inspire them to contribute to the development of the country. It connects the participants in the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat and combines varied cultures from throughout the nation on a one stage. Why is National Youth Day observed on January 12th?

National Youth Day is observed to commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s birthday. He was a philosopher, social reformer, and thinker. The primary goal of the festival is to spread Swami Vivekananda’s ideology and the principles for which he lived and worked. He undoubtedly served as a significant source of inspiration for the Indian National Youth. Numerous events are planned in schools, colleges, etc. across the nation.

Narendra Nath Dutta was the pre-monastic name of Swami Vivekananda. He was born in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) on January 12, 1863, and passed away there on July 4, 1902. His mother’s name was Bhuvaneshwari Devi, and his father’s name was Vishwanath Dutta. He came from a wealthy household. He fell into poverty as a result of his father’s abrupt death while he was a young boy, which destroyed the family’s financial foundation. Despite having a solid academic record, he struggled for a very long period to find employment. He used to knock on doors and ask for a job, but he never got one, so he stopped believing in God.

He was given the name “Shri Ramkrishna Paramhamsa” by one of his English instructors, and in 1881, he met Shri Ramakrishna Paramhamsa at the Kali temple in Dakshineshwar and became a follower of Saint Ramakrishna Paramhamsa. He introduced Vedanta and Yoga, two Indian philosophical traditions, to the West. He was incredibly patriotic to India and is revered for his contributions to the national ideals.

He also highlighted how widespread poverty is in India and how it must be addressed properly if the nation is to prosper. He is well remembered for his address at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893, where he described India’s culture, its significance, Hinduism, etc. before opening with the phrase “Sisters and brothers of America.”

As a result, Swami Vivekananda is a wise and devout man, a genuine philosopher whose ideas inspired young people and laid the road for the advancement of the nation. So this explains why India joyfully and enthusiastically observes January 12 as National Youth Day each year.
