Cabinet approves Vibrant Villages Programme
The Vibrant Villages Programme focuses on rural development in northern border states and union territories. The programme will result in the development of more than 663 villages. It will be implemented for two years, between 2022-23 and 2025-26. The program received a budget of Rs 4,800 crores from the central government. Road construction will be funded with 2500 crores of this total. The scheme was recently accepted by the cabinet.
The scheme’s key features
- The One-Village-One-Product concept will be adopted.
- Through establishing growth centres, social entrepreneurship will be promoted. These organisations will employ the “hub-and-spoke model.”
- Skill development programmes for women and young people
- Promotion of regional traditional knowledge and heritage development
- Eco-agribusiness development
- The programme will incorporate NGOs, cooperatives, and Self Help Organizations.
How will the scheme be put into action?
With assistance from the District administration, each village panchayat will develop a village action plan. They should primarily focus on drinking water, 24-hour electricity, all-weather roads, solar energy projects, wind energy projects, internet connections, tourist centres, health and wellness centres, multi-purpose centres, etc..
Benefits and the China factor
The scheme will assist India in retaining its population along the border. India must raise its population in these vulnerable areas because Chinese infiltrations near the border are growing, and China is attempting to exert more influence in the disputed territory areas. China has unveiled significant railroad plans in the disputed regions. The 219 NH that links Tibet and China is to blame for the 1962 Indo-China War. Recently, China declared plans to use this roadway to expand its railway line.
