c) United Nations Women and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs

Recently, the report entitled “Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG): The Gender Snapshot 2022” was launched by United Nations (UN) Women and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA).
Findings

· The report highlighted that Sustainable Development Goal-5 (SDG-5), or achieving gender equality, will not be met by 2030 at the current pace of progress.

· By the end of 2022, around 383 million women and girls will live in extreme poverty (on less than USD 1.90 a day) compared to 368 million men and boys.

· It will take close to 300 years to achieve full gender equality at the current rate of progress.

· It will also take at least 40 years to achieve equal representation of women in national parliaments.

· Progress must be 17 times faster than last decade’s progress of the last decade, to eradicate child marriage by 2030.

· Globally, women lost an estimated USD 800 billion in income in 2020 due to the pandemic.

· More women and girls are now forcibly displaced than ever before, some 44 million women and girls by the end of 2021.

Overheating of an economy occurs when its productive capacity is unable to keep pace with growing aggregate demand leading to inflation. Hence, statement 1 is correct.

When there is excess demand and low supply, high consumption and low savings can lead to a situation where there is a shortage of investible capital. The economy is unable to supply demanded goods and prices start increases.

This can be caused due to additional liquidity pumped in the system by the central bank or government. When people have more money in the short-term, they can demand more goods and services causing the economy to heat up in the short-term, until the demand is satisfied. Hence, statement 2 is correct.

a) Uzbekistan

The 2022 annual summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) heads of State Council will be held on September 15-16, 2022, in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The country took over the Chairmanship of the organization from Tajikistan on September 17, 2021. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also visit the country for the summit where the scope of multilateral cooperation in the future will be discussed.

Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning monarch of Britain passed away on September 8, 2022, at 96. She reigned for 70 years and 7 months to be exact, which is longer than any other monarch in British history. The previous record was held by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria, who reigned for 63 years, 7 months, and two days.

· The bloc meets annually to discuss issues of common interest like global economic governance, international security and energy policy.

· In 48th summit, G7 announced the collective mobilization of 600 billion dollars by 2027 under Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) to deliver “game-changing” and “transparent” infrastructure projects to developing and middle-income countries. Hence, statement 2 is correct.

· The “2022 Resilient Democracies Statement” was signed after Prime Minister attended a summit of the G7 countries.
· Apart from India, the signatories to the statement were Germany, Argentina, Canada, France, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Senegal, South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and the European Union

· The statement called for “guarding the freedom, independence and diversity of civil society actors” and “protecting the freedom of expression and opinion online and offline”. Hence, statement 3 is correct.
