a) Kollam

Kerala’s Kollam district has been declared the first constitution-literate district of India. The chief minister declared Kollam to be India’s first constitution-literate district, saying that constitutional ideals must be integrated into our daily lives and government in order to attain comprehensive constitutional literacy. As part of the initiative, about 16.3 lakh persons over the age of ten in the area have been taught various elements of the Constitution.

c) R’Bonney Gabriel

R’Bonney Gabriel of the United States was crowned Miss Universe 2022 on January 15, 2023. Divita Rai of India, who finished in the top 16, was unable to advance in the beauty contest held in New Orleans. Venezuela and the Dominican Republic were the other two countries in the top three.

Basmati rice is a premium variety of rice cultivated in the Himalayan foothills of the Indian sub-continent and is universally known for its long grain size, fluffy texture and unique inherent aroma and flavour. Due to its unique quality attributes, Basmati is a widely consumed variety of rice both domestically and globally and India accounts for two thirds of its global supply. Hence, statement 1 is incorrect.

Like semi-dwarf rice varieties, Basmati varieties require prolonged sunshine, high humidity and assured water supply. Basmati varieties with superior cooking and eating characteristics can be produced if the crop matures in relatively cooler temperature. The high temperature during grain filling period reduces the cooking and eating quality features of basmati rice like kernel elongation and non-stickiness of cooked rice. Hence, statement 2 is correct.

The total area presently under cultivation of Basmati rice is about 7,76,000 hectares in India and its production estimated at about 11,96,000 tonnes during 1998-99. The largest area under Basmati rice is in the state of Haryana (60%) followed by Uttar Pradesh (17.1%) and Punjab (16.1%). Hence, statement 3 is correct.

For the first time in the country, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has specified the identity standards for Basmati Rice (including Brown Basmati Rice, Milled Basmati Rice, Parboiled Brown Basmati Rice and Milled Parboiled Basmati Rice) vide Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) First Amendment Regulations, 2023.

b) World Economic Forum

The Global Risks Report 2023 was recently released by the World Economic Forum (WEF). As per the report, failure to mitigate climate change’ as well as ‘failure of climate change adaptation’ are the two most severe risks facing the world in the next decade.
They are followed by ‘natural disasters and extreme weather events’ and ‘Biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse’.

The All India Presiding Officers’ Conference (AIPOC) is the apex body of the Legislatures in India that completed its hundred years in 2021. The first Conference was held in Shimla in 1921. Hence, statement 1 is correct.

AIPOC resolved that all legislative bodies will take all steps to join the National Digital Grid for Legislative Bodies in the interest of greater efficiency, transparency and interconnectedness. AIPOC resolved that Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of legislative bodies be reviewed comprehensively and model uniform Rules be formulated incorporating best practices in order to secure greater participation of Members and productive functioning of the Houses of legislature. Hence, statement 2 is incorrect.
