b) European Union

The European Commission adopted a proposal for a new Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism which will put a carbon price on imports (Carbon Border Tax) of a targeted selection of products so that ambitious climate action in Europe does not lead to ‘carbon leakage’.

c) France

Google Doodle celebrated the 200th birth anniversary of French painter Rosa Bonheur on March 16, 2022. Rosa Bonheur was born on March 16, 1822 in France’s Bordeaux.

b) Telangana

For the first time in the country, Telangana has begun recording crop diversification patterns in the form of an index.
According to the crop diversification index, the state grows 77 varieties, with about 10 crops, mostly grains, preferred for diversification. The index will serve as a base for future crop diversification in the state.

c) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

The World Intellectual Property Organisation defines a GI as “a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin”.

GIs are typically used for agricultural products, foodstuffs, handicrafts, industrial products, wines and spirit drinks. Darjeeling tea, Kullu shawl, Mysore agarbathi, champagne (France), Swiss watches etc are some of its examples.

Internationally, GIs are covered as an element of intellectual property rights under the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property. They are also covered under the Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) Agreement.

c) March 15

The U.N. General Assembly approved a resolution setting March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.
The resolution was adopted by consensus by the UN and cosponsored by 55 mainly Muslim countries. It emphasizes the right to freedom of religion and belief and recalls a 1981 resolution calling for “the elimination of all forms of intolerance and of discrimination based on religion or belief.”
