a) Mexico, Peru, Singapore and Chile

It is a free trade agreement (FTA) between 11 nations: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.
· It was signed in March 2018.

· It succeeded the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)after the United States withdrew from the TPP in 2017.

· All 11 countries of CPTPP are members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

· The rights and obligations under the CPTPP fall into two categories:

· Rules: for example, on how countries should make new food safety regulations or whether they can ban the transfer of data to other CPTPP member These are the same for all CPTPP parties (including any new members that may join).

· Market access: how far each CPTPP member will cut its tariffs, open up its services markets, liberalise visa conditions for business travellers, and so on. Each member has its own schedules of commitments. In some cases, the commitments are offered to all other members, while in others, they are restricted to specific negotiating partners.

The UK has formally agreed to become the first European country to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

c) NITI Aayog

NITI Aayog has recently released the National Multidimensional Poverty Index. According to its data, between 2015-16 and 2019-21, the number of persons living in multidimensional poverty in the country has dropped from 24.85 per cent to 14.96 per cent. Uttar Pradesh has registered the highest decline in the number of poor with 3.43 crore people, followed by Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.

A three-year surveillance study from March 2017 to February 2020 in Kolkata has found an amoeba pathogen that previously did not cause any amoebiasis (a form of diarrhoea) in humans has now become pathogenic.

Diarrhoea can be caused by bacteria, viruses and amoeba pathogens. In the study, the researchers found nearly 5% of patients with diarrhoea were caused by different Entamoeba species and over 3% of patients were infected with E. moshkovskii.

b) Telangana

The annual Bonalu Festival was organized in Telangana’s capital Hyderabad, especially in parts of the old city. This festival is celebrated every year during the Hindu lunar month of Ashadha. Bonalu is an annual festival celebrated in parts of Telangana including Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The festival is dedicated to Goddess Mahakali, who is believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Durga. The word ‘Bonam’ in Telugu means ‘food’ or ‘feast’.
