c) Ladakh and Spanggur Lake

Battle of Rezang La

· The battle was fought between Indian and Chinese troops on the south-eastern ridge of the Chushul Valley of Eastern Ladakh.

Significance of Rezang La

· Rezang La is a mountain pass on the Line of Actual Control between Indian-administered Ladakh and the Chinese-administered Spanggur Lake basin.

· The pass is located on the eastern watershed ridge of the Chushul Valley.

· Rezang La is, therefore, vital for the defence of the crucially important Chushul.

· Any invader reaching there would have had a free run to Leh.

· With Rezang La, India gets a clear view of the Spanggur Gap, China’s Moldo Garrison and also of the Spanggur Lake.

India has recently observed the 60th anniversary of Battle of Rezang La.

a) RBI

The Reserve Bank of India has released the seventh edition of its statistical publication titled ‘Handbook of Statistics on Indian States 2021-22’.
As per the report, India’s gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to register a growth rate of about 7% in 2022-23 and between 6.1% and 6.3% in the June-September quarter of this fiscal. In the current edition of the Handbook, two new sections namely Health and Environment have been introduced.

b) Arunachal Pradesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 600 MW Kameng Hydro Power Station in Arunachal Pradesh. The power station has been developed at a cost of more than Rs. 8,450 crores and it aims to turn Arunachal Pradesh into a power-surplus state. The Hydro Power station project is also in line with India’s commitment to move towards green energy initiatives.

c) North Korea

North Korea launched the ‘Hwasong-17’ intercontinental ballistic missile. It is also dubbed as the Monster missile. The Hwasong-17 is North Korea’s biggest missile yet. It is also the largest road-mobile, liquid-fuelled intercontinental ballistic missile in the world.

c) Neither 1 nor 2

· In a narco test, a drug called sodium pentothal is injected into the body of the accused, which transports them to a hypnotic or sedated state.
· In such a state the accused’s imagination is neutralised and is understood as being incapable of lying, and is expected to divulge information that is true. Hence, statement 1 is correct.

· The Supreme Court had ruled that narco analysis, brain mapping and polygraph tests cannot be conducted on any person without his or her consent.
· The apex court had noted in response to petitions questioning the validity of such tests, are illegal and a violation of personal liberty.

· However, statements made during narco analysis test are not admissible in the court, except under certain circumstances when the court thinks that the facts and nature of the case permit it. Hence, statement 2 is correct.
