Nearly 200 countries at the UN climate summit COP-27 agreed to set up a “loss and damage fund” to support poorer countries which are affected by climate impacts.
‘Loss and damage’ refers to costs being incurred from climate-fuelled weather extremes or impacts, like rising sea levels. The fund covers the cost of damage that poorer countries cannot avoid or adapt to.

a) Portulans Institute

The NRI report is released by Portulans Institute, an independent non-profit, nonpartisan research and educational institute based in Washington DC. It places maps network-based readiness landscape of 131 economies based on their performances in four different pillars: Technology, People, Governance, and Impact covering a total of 58 variables.

India has climbed up six places to 61st rank in the Network Readiness Index 2022 report.

d) Marie Tharp

Marie Tharp was an American Geologist and Oceanographic cartographer who created the first scientific map of the Atlantic Ocean Floor. In the 1950s, she collaborated with Geologist Bruce Heezen to produce the map. Her work revealed a more detailed topography and multi-dimensional geographical landscape of the ocean bottom.

India assumed the Chair of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) from the outgoing chair France.
GPAI is an association of 25 member countries, including the US, the UK, EU, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, and Singapore. India joined GPAI in 2020 as a founding member.
