a) Medicinal applications

Garcinia pedunculata, a medicinal plant commonly called ‘Borthekera’ in the Assamese language, traditionally forbidden for raw consumption, has been found to protect from heart diseases. Administration of the dried pulp of the ripe fruit of the medicinal plant reduced cardiac hypertrophy indicators and oxidative stress and heart inflammation brought on by ISO. The sun-dried slices of the ripe fruit are used for culinary and medicinal purposes and are known to have therapeutic properties like anti-inflammatory, anthelmintic, antibacterial, antifungal, antidiabetic, hypolipidemic, nephroprotective, and even neuroprotective activity.

c) G7 countries

The G7 countries have officially launched the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment in the Leaders’ Summit in Germany.
The G7 countries are the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, France, Germany, and Japan.
The Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) is a joint initiative to fund infrastructure projects in developing countries.
The PGII was first announced in G7 Summit in the UK in 2021.
Back then, the US President Joe Biden had called it the Build Back Better World (B3W) framework.
Collectively, the PGII aims to mobilise nearly $600 billion from the G7 by 2027 to invest in critical infrastructure that improves lives and delivers real gains for all of our people.
The project is being seen as the G7 bloc’s counter to China’s ‘Belt and Road Initiative.

a) USA-Russia

The New START Treaty is the last remaining nuclear arms control treaty between the US and Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin recently announced Russia’s intention to suspend the participation in this treaty.
The treaty caps the number of strategic nuclear warheads that the two countries can deploy. It was signed in 2010 between former US President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

d) Both 1 and 2

The scheme aims to promote tourism and encourage people to explore the rich cultural heritage and diversity of India. This scheme primarily targets the middle-class citizens of the country, encouraging them to travel within India rather than abroad. Hence, statement 1 is correct.

The ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ scheme will provide financial assistance to those travelling to less frequented or far off destinations. Under the scheme, travellers will get to enjoy several benefits in hotel rates, travel and entrance fees. Under this plan, around 50 destinations in the country will be developed and promoted to attract tourists. Hence, statement 2 is correct.

b) Israel

ULTRASAT, Israel’s first telescope mission, is set to be launched into a geostationary orbit in early 2026 through a partnership between NASA and the Israel Space Agency.
The ultra-violet observatory will focus on observing short-duration space events such as supernovae and the merging of neutron stars, utilizing its wide field of view to quickly capture ultraviolet light from such sources.
