d) Egypt

Egypt has become a new member of the BRICS-backed New Development Bank. Egypt joined the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB), weeks after BRICS President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi visited India as the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations. New Development Bank was earlier known as BRICS Development Bank. Also, it has been established by BRICS countries in 2015. The headquarters are in Shanghai, China.

c) Chhattisgarh

The Chhattisgarh Mediapersons Protection Bill 2023 was passed by the state assembly. Its aim is to give protection for media persons and prevent violence against them.
The opposition MLAs demanded that the Bill be sent to the Select Committee of the Assembly for examination, which was rejected by Speaker Charandas Mahant.

a) Coral Sea and Arafura Sea

Torres Strait, passage between the Coral Sea, on the east, and the Arafura Sea, in the western Pacific Ocean.
· To the north lies New Guinea and to the south Cape York Peninsula, Australia.

· It has many reefs and shoals dangerous to navigation, and its larger islands are inhabited.

· Discovered (1606) by the Spanish mariner Luis Vaez de Torres, its existence was kept secret until 1764, the strait that still bears his name.

· Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a unique place in Australia as the original inhabitants of the land.

· However, despite some improvements in recent years, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continue to be one of the most vulnerable groups in Australia.

The Australian government recently took a historical step with the referendum to give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders recognition in the constitution.

c) UNICEF

The ‘Triple Threat Report’ was released recently by the UNICEF. According to this report, the absence of monitoring of the WASH-related programmes, projects and policies are the main drivers of the water insecurities in the world’s worst-impact countries.

Types of Closure Motion
· Simple Closure: If the matter is sufficiently discussed then the member might move a Simple closure motion.

· Closure by Compartments: For discussion, the bill or a resolution is grouped together into compartments. Therefore a particular section or group of sections in a bill can be put to vote.

· Kangaroo Closure: When this type of closure motion is passed, only the important clauses of a bill are discussed and voted. The remaining clauses are deemed to be passed

· Guillotine Closure: When the time allocated for discussion of a particular bill or resolution is over, all the undiscussed clauses are put to vote along with the discussed ones on the Guillotine.

The Lok Sabha passed the demands for grants for ministries without any discussion due to disruptions in Parliamentary procedure.
