d) Invest in Our planet

World Earth Day is observed every year on 22 April to mark the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.
The theme for this year is the continuation of the 2022 theme “Invest in Our Planet”. The day aims to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote conservation efforts to protect our planet.

a) Mexico

Taam Ja Blue hole is around 900 feet deep and scientists have dubbed it the second-deepest blue hole found on the planet. It has a nearly circular shape at its surface with steep sides that form a large conic structure covered by biofilms, sediments, limestone, and gypsum ledges. It was found in the central portion of Chetumal Bay, where submerged coastal karstic sinkholes locally named ‘pozas’ have been reported. It is located off the coast of Mexico.

Scientists have discovered a massive blue hole off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico.

c) Madhya Pradesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch nine campaigns under Inclusive Development (Samaveshi Vikaas) theme on the 24th of April on the National Panchayati Raj Day in Madhya Pradesh.
He also launched the Website and Mobile App ‘Samaveshi Vikaas’ at the event. The mobile app is designed with the objective to ensure the documentation of public participation. It will also enable the government to assess and monitor the progress of the campaigns through technical tools.

d) UK

India and UK jointly launch India-UK ‘Net Zero’. It has been announced to make Innovation Virtual Center. Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh is on a 6-day visit to the UK and is leading a high-level official Indian delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology. He also called for increasing science and technology cooperation between India and the United Kingdom.

A ZSD is a day on which the Sun does not cast a shadow of an object at solar noon, when the sun will be exactly at the zenith position(highest point in the sky). Hence, statement 1 is incorrect.

There are two zero shadow days every year in May and July/August, observed in places that lie between the tropic of Cancer and the tropic of Capricorn. One falls during the Uttarayan (when the Sun moves northwards), and the other is during Dakshinayan (when the Sun moves southwards). It lasts for a small part of a second, but the effect can be seen for a minute to a minute-and-a-half. Hence, statement 2 is correct.
