a) Spanish

The 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) concluded recently. Spanish film ‘I have electric dreams’ directed by Valentina Maurel won the Golden Peacock award.
Vahid Mobasseri, the lead actor of No End, was honoured with Silver Peacock for Best Actor (Male), while Daniela Marin Navarro, lead Actor of Best Film I Have Electric Dreams was honoured with Silver Peacock for Best Actor (Female). Iranian writer and director Nader Saeivar got Silver Peacock for Best Director for No End. France was the ‘Spotlight’ country this year.

b) Tropical storms

The Fujiwhara Effect is any interaction between tropical storms formed around the same time in the same ocean region with their centres or eyes at a distance of less than 1,400 km, with intensity that could vary between a depression (wind speed under 63 km per hour) and a super typhoon (wind speed over 209 km per hour). The interaction could lead to changes in the track and intensity of either or both storms systems. In rare cases, the two systems could merge, especially when they are of similar size and intensity, to form a bigger storm.

Typhoon Hinnamnor demonstrated a textbook example of a phenomenon known as the Fujiwhara Effect.

c) Hawaii

The world’s largest active volcano, Mauna Loa in Hawaii, United States has erupted for the first time since 1984. It ended its longest quiet period in recorded history. Mauna Loa volcano in Hawaii had last erupted in March and April of 1984 and had sent a flow of lava within 5 miles (8.05 km) of Hilo, Hawaii’s largest city.

The GSLEP is a first-of-its-kind intergovernmental alliance for the conservation of the snow leopard and its unique ecosystem. It involves all snow leopard range countries, non-governmental organizations, multi-lateral institutions, scientists and local communities. Hence, statement 1 is correct.

It is led by the environment ministers of 12 countries in Asia that form the home range of the snow leopard. These are Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The total range spans two million square kilometres. The GSLEP Program’s secretariat is based in Bishkek, and is hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic. Hence, statement 2 is correct.

d) Egypt

India has invited Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi as the chief guest on Republic Day 2023, as per the Ministry of External Affairs.
This would be the first time that an Egyptian president would be the chief guest at the Indian Republic Day celebrations. Egypt is one of the nine guest countries to the G20 summit under India’s presidency. Both countries are celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year.
