d) United Nations

As per United Nations (UN) World Economic Situation and Prospects 2023 report, India’s growth is likely to remain strong at 5.8 per cent.
The growth estimation was slightly lower than the estimated 6.4 per cent in 2022, due to higher interest rates and effect of global slowdown on investment and exports. UN also predicted a worsening outlook in most developing regions amid the fear of a possible recession.

a) West Bengal

Jatar Deul also called tower temple (rekha-deul), is located in the numerous rivers criss-crossed by stone-free alluvial and bush landscape of the southern Sundarbans settlements in the Indian state of West Bengal. The temple has been classified as a Monument of National Importance by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). A copper plate found near the temple in 1875 suggests that Raja Joychandra constructed the temple in 975 AD.

The temple is facing a threat due to climate change.

c) Amrit Udyan

The Mughal Gardens in New Delhi’s Rashtrapati Bhavan were christened ‘Amrit Udyan’ by the Central Government on January 28, 2023. In keeping with the concept of ‘Amrit Mahotsav,’ which marks the 75th anniversary of India’s independence, the Central government renamed Mughal Gardens Amrit Udyan.

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is an intergovernmental organisation and the implementing body for the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), which entered into force on 29 April 1997. The OPCW, with its 193 member states, has its seat in The Hague, Netherlands; it oversees the global endeavour for the permanent and verifiable elimination of chemical weapons. Hence, statement 1 is correct.

The principal body is the Conference of the States Parties (CSP), which normally is convened yearly, and in which all countries can participate, with equal voting rights. Countries are generally represented in the conference by a permanent representative to the organisation. Hence, statement 2 is incorrect.

While the OPCW is not a specialised agency of the United Nations, it cooperates both on policy and practical issues as a related organisation. On 7 September 2000, the OPCW and the United Nations signed a cooperation agreement outlining how they were to coordinate their activities. Hence, statement 3 is correct.

a) Doctor

The President has approved the conferment of 106 Padma Awards- 6 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan and 91 Padma Shri Awards in 2023.
Mulayam Singh Yadav (Posthumous), Balkrishna Doshi (Posthumous), Zakir Hussain, SM Krishna, Dilip Mahalanabis (Posthumous) and Srinivas Varadhan were conferred Padma Vibhushan. Dr Dilip Mahalanabis served the country and saved millions of lives when there was an outbreak of cholera in 1971, during the Liberation War of Bangladesh. He was the pioneer of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS).
