a) Maharashtra

Madh Island:

· It is an island located in Malad west, in the western suburbs of Mumbai, Maharashtra.

· It consists of several fishing villages and farmlands bounded by Arabian sea to the west and Malad creek to the east.

· Over the years, Madh has evolved from a group of fishing villages to a prominent residential and holiday destination.

· It also houses Airforce and Naval stations.

· It is primarily inhabited by Kolis, Marathis, and Roman Catholics.

· It also has an old Fort, Madh Fort and a 16th century Portuguese Church – St. Bonaventure.

· ‘Erangal’ is a picturesque village on Madh island which is a popular filming location.

The western zone bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) recently revoked the stay on demolition of five studios in the Madh Island.

c) Romania

On March 28, 2023, India and Romania signed the defence cooperation agreement during the bilateral meeting on defence cooperation held between Giridhar Aramane, Secretary, Ministry of Defence and Simona Cojocaru, State Secretary and Chief of the Department for Defence Policy, Planning and International Relations of Romania in New Delhi, Delhi.
• This is the first defence cooperation agreement between India and Romania.
i. This agreement will set the foundation of the practical cooperation between the armed forces of India and Romania & this will also provide a new impetus to the bilateral agenda on defence.
ii. Under this agreement, Romania will cooperate with India on military education, training, cyber defence, military medicine, military history and other domains that can benefit both the nations.

b) Himachal Pradesh

The Himachal Pradesh recently repealed the Loktantra Prahari Samman Act.
The Act provides a monthly pension of Rs 20,000 and Rs 12,000 to the people who lodged in jails during the Emergency from 1975 to 1977. The repeal of the Act shall not affect the previous operations of the said Act.

d) Einstein Tile

The Einstein tile is a single shape that can be used to cover a surface completely without creating a repeated pattern. It was discovered recently by mathematicians.
“Einstein” is a play on German ein stein or “one stone”. A set of tile-types is considered to be aperiodic if copies of these tiles can only form patterns without repetition.

d) Both 1 and 2

It is an autonomous international organization established under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
· Mandate: It has the mandate to ensure the effective protection of the marine environment from harmful effects that may arise from deep-seabed-related activities. Hence, statement 1 is correct.

It has its headquarters in Kingston, Jamaica
· Its primary function is to regulate the exploration of poly-metallic nodules. Hence, statement 2 is correct.

Recently, the International Seabed Authority has decided that it will start taking permit applications from companies that want to mine the ocean floor.
