Happy Republic Day 2023: The 74th Republic Day of India will be observed on January 26, 2023. The Indian Constitution was ratified on this day in 1950. One of the most significant national holidays in India is Republic Day, often referred to as Gantantra Diwas. The members of the Constituent Assembly, which formed after the cruel colonial history, wrote the Indian Constitution, which was established on January 26, 1950.
Every year, the nation celebrates Republic Day with great zeal and passion. Republic Day 2023 will once again be commemorated with activities like parades, cultural performances, rallies, etc. The Kartavya Path will host a number of vibrant events, such as military parades and other activities. Republic Day History
Republic Day commemorates the adoption of the Indian Constitution. Because the Indian National Congress published the Purna Swaraj, or Declaration of Indian Independence, on that date in 1930, rejecting the hegemony of the British administration, January 26 was declared Republic Day. After a few days, on August 29, a committee was formed to design a long-term Constitution for an Independent India. India attained independence on August 15, 1947.
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar served as the committee’s chair. The group drafted the constitution, which was presented to the Constituent Assembly on November 4th, 1947. Before the assembly completed the draught, it held numerous sessions over a two-year period. The 308 Assembly Members signed two handwritten copies, one in Hindi and one in English, on January 24, 1950, following numerous meetings and deliberations. On January 26, 1950, the Indian Constitution was ratified and took force. Dr. Rajendra Prasad was inaugurated as India’s first president on that day.
Republic Day 2023: Adaptation of the Indian Constitution
The constituent assembly drafted the Indian Constitution. There were 207 members present for the first session, which took place on December 9th, 1946, with nine women in attendance. The assembly originally had 389 members, but that number was later reduced to 299 following the independence and the division.
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who is regarded as the Father of the Constitution, served as the chairman of the drafting committee. Out of the 7,600 revisions to the constitution, the committee divided 2,400 throughout its deliberations. The Constitution of India was enacted at the Constituent Assembly’s final meeting on November 26, 1949, and it went into effect on January 26, 1950, which is recognised as Republic Day in India.
Republic Day 2023’s significance
The Indian National Congress (INC) proclaimed Purna Swaraj on January 26, 1930, and rejected the sovereignty of the British Government. Thus, Republic Day in India was observed on January 26, 1950, the day the Indian Constitution took effect. Republic Day represents an independent and liberated India after years of torment at the hands of the British government.
