International Mother Language Day is observed on February 21 each year to raise awareness of the value of the nation’s cultural and linguistic diversity. Bangladesh took the effort to institute this holiday. The UNESCO General Conference adopted it in 1999, and ever since then, it has been celebrated all around the world. By honouring the historical language movement and the martyrs who gave their lives in Bangladesh in 1952, this day commemorates pride and honour. International Mother Language Day celebrates its 24th edition this year. “Multilingual education – a necessity to transform education,” is the theme for this year.
The theme for 2022 was “Using technology for multilingual learning: Challenges and Opportunities,” while the theme for 2021 was “Fastering multilingualism for inclusion in education and society.”

The UN General Assembly supported the declaration of a UN day in accordance with a UN resolution of 2002. Language plays a crucial role in the development and expansion of human civilization.
