PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission
In October 2021, the PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Program was launched with the goal of strengthening healthcare infrastructure across India. The mission, which has a budget of Rs. 64,180 crore, focuses on three areas: enhancing public health institutions, developing an IT-enabled disease surveillance system, and expanding infectious disease research.
Why is PMABHIM in the news?
The PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Project will be supported by two complementary 500 million USD loans from the World Bank, which have been extended to India. In one of these loans, the seven states of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Meghalaya, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh will receive priority for healthcare services. With $500 million, the Public Health Systems for Pandemic Preparation Program will assist the government’s initiatives to enhance epidemic surveillance, guarantee prompt response, and prevent the emergence of novel infections.
Who initiated PMABHIM?
Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health. PM Modi launched it in Varanasi. At an investment of Rs 64,180 crores, it was introduced in 2021. The goal was to strengthen the nation’s health infrastructure.
What are the PMABHIM’s three major goals?
The first goal is to enhance public health institutions and provide comprehensive primary health care. The second goal is to build surveillance laboratories and expand the technology-based surveillance system. The third goal is to expand the research of infectious diseases.
The PMABHIM’s Key Features
Under the scheme, 134 different kinds of testing will be done. At the district level, the tests will be free. Container-based hospitals were launched, complete with medical facilities that were always ready. There is now a vast network of health and wellness centers. There were 15 Biosafety Level 3 labs built. The National Center for Disease Control established five new regional centres. More than 4,000 public health units at the block and district levels were built.
