Vice President Venkaiah Naidu Released Book Titled “The Struggle for Police Reforms in India” by Ex-IPS Prakash Singh :
Vice President (VP) of India, M Venkaiah Naidu, released a book titled “The Struggle for Police Reforms in India: Ruler’s Police to People’s Police” authored by a former IPS officer, Prakash Singh in New Delhi, Delhi.
The book is published by Rupa Publications India Pvt Ltd.
About the book:
i.This book documents the efforts made to bring about police reforms in India.
ii.The book provides the historical background to the origin of the Indian Police and traces the evolution during British Rule and subsequently since independence.
iii.The book focuses on the efforts of Prakash Singh to bring transformational changes in the Indian Police.
Police reforms in India:
i.In 1996, Prakash Singh filed Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court for reforming the police.
ii.In 2006, he got a favourable judgement from the Supreme Court, mandating country-wide police reform and issuing seven crucial directives to immediately start the implementation process.
About Prakash Singh:
i.Prakash Singh, a 1959 batch IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, is the Chairman of the Indian Police Foundation(IPF).
ii.Prakash Singh has served as the Police Chief of 2 of the largest states of India: Uttar Pradesh and Assam, and also Director General of India’s Border Security Force (BSF).
iii.He was a Member of the National Security Advisory Board (2013-14) and He is also an Associate Fellow of the Joint Special Operations University (US).
iv.Government of India honoured him with Padma Shri in 1991 for Civil Service.
He has authored around 6 books and about 300 articles for the national dailies.

भारत के उपराष्ट्रपति (VP) M वेंकैया नायडू ने नई दिल्ली, दिल्ली में एक पूर्व IPS अधिकारी, प्रकाश सिंह द्वारा लिखित “द स्ट्रगल फॉर पुलिस रिफॉर्म्स इन इंडिया: रूलर पुलिस टू पीपल्स पुलिस” नामक एक पुस्तक का विमोचन किया।
पुस्तक रूपा पब्लिकेशन्स इंडिया प्राइवेट लिमिटेड द्वारा प्रकाशित की गई है।
किताब के बारे में:
i.यह पुस्तक भारत में पुलिस सुधार लाने के लिए किए गए प्रयासों का दस्तावेजीकरण करती है।
ii.पुस्तक भारतीय पुलिस की उत्पत्ति की ऐतिहासिक पृष्ठभूमि प्रदान करती है और ब्रिटिश शासन के दौरान और बाद में स्वतंत्रता के बाद के विकास का पता लगाती है।
iii.पुस्तक भारतीय पुलिस में परिवर्तनकारी परिवर्तन लाने के लिए प्रकाश सिंह के प्रयासों पर केंद्रित है।
भारत में पुलिस सुधार:
i.1996 में, प्रकाश सिंह ने पुलिस में सुधार के लिए सुप्रीम कोर्ट में जनहित याचिका (PIL) दायर की।
ii.2006 में, उन्हें सुप्रीम कोर्ट से एक अनुकूल निर्णय मिला, जिसमें देशव्यापी पुलिस सुधार को अनिवार्य किया गया और कार्यान्वयन प्रक्रिया को तुरंत शुरू करने के लिए सात महत्वपूर्ण निर्देश जारी किए गए।
प्रकाश सिंह के बारे में:
i.उत्तर प्रदेश कैडर के 1959 बैच के IPS अधिकारी प्रकाश सिंह भारतीय पुलिस फाउंडेशन (IPF) के अध्यक्ष हैं।
ii.प्रकाश सिंह ने भारत के 2 सबसे बड़े राज्यों: उत्तर प्रदेश और असम के पुलिस प्रमुख और भारत के सीमा सुरक्षा बल (BSF) के महानिदेशक के रूप में कार्य किया है।
iii.वह राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सलाहकार बोर्ड (2013-14) के सदस्य थे और वह संयुक्त विशेष संचालन विश्वविद्यालय (US) के एसोसिएट फेलो भी हैं।
iv.भारत सरकार ने उन्हें 1991 में सिविल सेवा के लिए पद्म श्री से सम्मानित किया।
उन्होंने राष्ट्रीय दैनिकों के लिए लगभग 6 पुस्तकें और लगभग 300 लेख लिखे हैं।
